Business Visa (M Visa) Application Guide
The M visa is intended for foreign citizens traveling to China for business and trade activities, such as:
- Business negotiations and client visits
- Market research and project inspections
- Participation in exhibitions and trade fairs
- Signing commercial contracts
- Conducting business exchanges with Chinese partners
It should be noted that the M visa cannot be used directly for employment in China. If you plan to work in China on a long-term basis, you should apply for a work visa (Z visa).
To apply for an M visa, you generally need to prepare:
- A passport valid for more than six months;
- A visa application form and recent passport-sized photos;
- Proof of legal residence (if applying in a third country);
- An invitation letter issued by a partner within China;
- Documents proving business activities, exhibition invitations, or conference invitations;
- Other supplementary materials required by the embassy or consulate.
The invitation letter usually should include:
- Basic information about the invitee;
- Purpose of visit to China and itinerary;
- Name, address, and contact information of the inviting entity;
- Official seal of the inviting entity or signature of the responsible person.
Step 1: Obtain a Business Invitation
An invitation letter and supporting documents for business activities must be issued by enterprises, partners, exhibition organizers, or relevant institutions within China.
Step 2: Complete the Visa Application Form
Fill out the visa application form online according to the requirements of the Chinese embassy or consulate in your location, and schedule an appointment for submission.
Step 3: Submit Application Materials
Submit the application materials to the Chinese embassy or consulate abroad, or to a Chinese visa application service center, and complete biometric data collection as required.
Step 4: Await Review
The visa authority will review the submitted materials and may request additional documents or further clarification regarding business activities if necessary.
Step 5: Collect the Visa and Enter China
Upon approval, you may enter China to conduct business activities within the validity period, duration of stay, and number of permitted entries specified on the visa. M visas can be issued for single, double, or multiple entries.
